The Housing Society (HKHS) has been crowned with 3 grand prizes for the outstanding performance in elderly care services at the 11th Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards 2023, organised by the Ageing Asia in Singapore, including the "Facility of the Year – Day Care Centre" of the Tanner Hill Joyous Circle, and 2 projects of the Living Lab in Gerontechnology for Age-Friendly Home (Age-Friendly Home Living Lab), namely the “Innovation of the Year – Ageing-in-Place Model” in collaboration with the Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) to create a safe community for seniors with cognitive impairment, and the "Innovation of the Year – Assistive Living (Digital Solution)" in collaboration with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University on Jockey Club Elderly Knee Health 360 Project.
Enabling elderly to age-in-place is a team work across generations and sectors. We are happy to collaborate with the Towngas on the “Peace of Mind Programme”, to adopt a series of newly developed smart gas products in HKHS rental estates, making use of IoT technology, for monitoring the appliance’s status through mobile phones and turn it off remotely anytime and anywhere, so as to prevent potential fire risks when cooking, at the same time to alleviate the anxiety and provide a peace of mind to caregivers. Meanwhile, these smart gas products are as well showcased in our Elderly Resources Centre to serve the purpose of public education.
In addition, as knee pain has been identified as one of the most common obstacles that hinders the mobility of elderly. The Age-Friendly Home Living Lab has collaborated with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University on the Jockey Club Elderly Knee Health 360 Project, putting a recently developed AI driven smartphone app in use for fast track knee health screening, which provides objective information to reflect the quality of life for individuals with just a few body movements, so as to promote early intervention and community education over medicine.
