Jolly Place Care Home
Located in Tseung Kwan O, the Jolly Place Care Home is a private residential care home for the elderly operated by the Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS). The care home is set up inside the Jolly Place, an elderly estate under HKHS’s “Senior Citizen Residences Scheme”. Apart from receiving personalised nursing and care services, residents of the care home can as well take pleasure from clubhouse facilities, and enjoy themselves with an independent and rewarding lifestyle.
- Provision of twin and triple bedrooms to accommodate of up to 38 residents;
- Each room is equipped with electric care bed, bedside curtain, television, and individual bathroom;
- Touch screen computers with 24-hour internet services are available for residents to chat online with families and friends;
- The podium garden is featured with a reflexology path, fitness and recreational amenities.
The Jolly Place Care Home offers various physical and cognitive training where personalised training programmes are designed for elderly upon assessment of a multidisciplinary team that comprises of physiotherapists, occupational therapists and nurses, with an objective to decelerate the deterioration in cognitive competence and strengthen their self-care ability. Family members of the elderly will also be invited to take part in formulating appropriate training programmes and review the effectiveness of trainings.
Occupational therapy
Occupational therapy is a kind of rehabilitation therapy for people with temporary, permanent or developmental disabilities. Occupational therapists tailor activities and therapeutic processes according to individual needs, so as to improve the quality of life for people in need through enhancing their physical and psychological functions, prevent illness, improve self-care ability, and assist them to reintegrate into family, work and society.
Scope of Service:
- Provides assessments on daily self-care activities and relevant trainings;
- Provides swallowing assessments and treatments such as oral-motor therapy and exercises, Vitalstim® Therapy;
- Provides cognitive assessments and treatments including cognitive training, multi-sensory therapy, reminiscence therapy and reality orientation;
- Provides rehabilitation treatments for stroke and traumatic brain injury to improve patients’ mobility and self-care ability;
- Provides pressure mapping and seating assessments, and recommendations on the use of assistive devices;
- Provides on-site assessments and renovation recommendations for home environment;
- Provides carer training courses.
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is a non-pharmacological intervention that base on the theory of physics (light, heat, cold, water, force and sound) to achieve therapeutic effect for physical disorder and delay ageing. Physiotherapists correct the postures of patients with impaired mobility due to bone fractures or stroke by improving their balance and mobility through tailor-made programs, including stretching, weight training and functional exercises; and combine with different treatment modalities, such as electrotherapy, manual therapy and acupuncture to relieve their pain and discomfort that bring along.
Scope of Service:
- Provides group and individual treatments;
- Provides ultrasound therapy, interferential therapy, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and modern acupuncture to relieve pain;
- Provides post-stroke rehabilitation treatments to improve patients’ mobility;
- Provides cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and chest physiotherapy (include percussion and suction)
Remarks: This service requires referral from a Hong Kong registered doctor.
施女士患有嚴重腦退化,因耳後長有神經瘤導致容易出現暈眩及跌倒。她曾兩次在家跌倒而入院,由於施女士的家人均在美國定居,無法時刻陪伴在旁,因此決定安排施女士入住安老院舍。
施女士已入住安頤閣四年,期間曾經因跌倒而入院留醫,但面對陌生的醫院環境,施女士因缺乏安全感而不能正常排尿,為安撫其情緒,安頤閣安排了護理員到醫院陪伴及開解施女士,最終讓她放下不安的情緒,成功排尿,免受插尿喉之苦。
施女士的女兒指母親的個性很強,脾氣很大,入住安頤閣的首兩年經常失眠,更曾嘗試偷走。施女士又喜歡半夜洗澡及洗晾衣服,因而未能與同房的住客融洽相處。「安頤閣的姑娘處理得非常好,諒解媽媽的情況,會盡量配合她的要求,姑娘真的很疼惜她。」施女士的女兒十分欣賞職員以愛心和耐性,與長者及其家人建立如親人般的互信關係。

Elderly Resources Centre
The Elderly Resources Centre (ERC), the first of its kind in Hong Kong, was set up by the Hong Kong Housing Society in 2005. Through education, health screening, professional consultation and research by Occupational Therapist and Social Worker, ERC aims to promote the concept of “age-friendly home” so that “ageing in place” can be achieved.

Caring Engaging Smart
Housing Society Community was founded in 2003, while service of registered social workers was introduced in 2010, and Ageing-in-Place Scheme as from 2012 to facilitate elders of rental housing estates to live in the estates at ease while ageing. All these aiming at promoting mutual helping neighborhood and building harmonic community. In early 2021, upholding the three pillars of ‘caring’, ‘engaging’ and ‘smart’, we have formed a new team named “CES”.
